How we review a registered agent

Each review answers five yes-or-no questions about what the provider’s own page publishes, then lists the page’s wording and read date. Mainstay Filing is reviewed the same way as everyone else, and it is also our pick, which is why the method is written down.

  1. Price published. The registered agent price is on the provider’s own page.
  2. Renewal price published. The page says what year two costs.
  3. Price stays the same. The year-two price is not higher than year one.
  4. Inclusions listed. The page says what the price covers.
  5. Price terms spelled out. The page adds a qualifier we could quote: prepay, per-state, billing frequency or an introductory period.

What we do not do

  • We do not give star ratings to competitors.
  • We do not quote customers or report review-site scores, which we have not independently verified.
  • We do not test service. “Not stated” means we did not find the item on the page.
  • We do not certify that any company is legitimate.

Where a provider wins

If a provider publishes more than Mainstay Filing on a criterion, or costs less, its review says so. For example FreeRegisteredAgent.com has the lowest year-one price we found, $0.
